A Word From The Editor: Much News in the World of DOC/Sue Thomas FBEye!

Welcome to the Sixth Official DOC/Sue Thomas FBEye Newsletter. It's been a while since we put out a newsletter, but here it is, finally.

We've been working on some details, which now have all been ironed out and the newsletter is ready to go.

I'm excited about this newsletter, because we have an exclusive interview with Derek McGrath, specifically dealing with his new CD Stranger and to top it off, Derek has made a special offer to just the subscribers of the newsletter.

Then, I'm also excited about the opening of the newsletter's website, so if you ever wondered whether you've missed a newsletter of anything, you can always go to the website and read all of them. Make sure to bookmark this website in your favorites.

And also, in case that you didn't know, I interviewed most of the DOC castmembers and Tara Samuel of Sue Thomas FBEye. If you'd like to read these interviews, they can all be found along with many reviews of films and home-entertainment at my Positive-Entertainment Website: http://www.positive-entertainment.com

I hope you all enjoy this newsletter and it was worth the wait!

Derek McGrath, No Stranger to Music!

Derek McGrath plays the lovable Dr. Derek Herbert on DOC and a Dance Instructor on one of the episodes of Sue Thomas FBEye. He has also acted in countless other shows, such as Startrek, Cheers, Who's the Boss, Growing Pains, and Dallas. This is just a small part of it. If you'd like to see a more comprehensive list, click here to see his impressive IMDB listing. This is even a television guide cover featuring Derek, that I found someone sell on eBay!
What you might not know about Derek is that he is also a very accomplished singer with his own CD to boast. The CD is called Stranger. I had the privilege of talking with Derek about his CD.
"My CD is called "Stranger." And there is song on there called "Stranger" which Billy Ray really loved. It's always been one of my favorite songs. It's kind of a folksy, country type song. The album is a mixed bag of many, many influences, because I've been influenced by a lot of different people, Van Morrison, the Eagles, Crosby-Stills, Nash and Young, and there is even a little bit of Reggae on there. When people say: 'What kind of music do you do?' It's really kind of hard to answer that. The only thing I could say is Contemporary Pop. I play a lot of acoustic guitar on the album. I have also some absolutely wonderful musicians on the album, I have Kevin Breit, who plays guitar for Norah Jones. His brother is also on the album, who plays piano for Bryan Adams, and I've got one of Sarah McLachlan's background singers, just a couple of really well known Toronto musicians. They are just really good musicians. The material is all original, some of it goes back a long ways, 10-15 years anyway. Some of it is a celebration, some of it is a longing, searching. There are a lot of stories in the songs and I'm very proud of it and I've had very good response from anyone, who's listened to it."
Billy Ray really loved the CD and even sang harmony on the original version of the album but that version was lost. "I played with him. Shortly after he heard my music, he said that he really liked it. He invited me to go play with him in Fort Worth, Texas. It was a huge bar, one of the biggest in the world. We played and it went very well."
Derek's good friend Ron Lea also really loved the music. "There's a quote on my CD from Ron Lea. He's a big fan of my music. He is just the sweetest guy on the planet by the way. He's a great guy. He really is! He's in a show here now called: 'This is wonderland.' I recently did an episode on that show. It's an excellent show. It's a television show, but it moves very quickly. It's grungier, because they are all Toronto lawyers and it's more of the actual kind of cases that you get on a day to day basis in a normal court. It's more your street people and not your high profile lawyers and business people, like you would see on L.A. law. It moves very quickly and I don't know if it is going to get picked up again next year, but Ronnie was just terrific in it as a lawyer. He played one of those sort ratty type characters, a little unscrupulous and he was very good. He's a terrific actor."
Derek was actually the one that recommended Ron Lea for the part of DOC. "
I actually recommended Ronnie for that part and he probably got me onto his show too. I knew he would do a great job, when they first called. Gary said: 'alright, we'll see him.' And then they called back and they said: 'Hey, that guy is really good! He's our favorite choice at the moment!'"
Derek loves acting, but he really wants to do both. "I want to do both. The music is much more personal to me. It comes from a deeper place in my heart. It's my art. These are all my own songs, so you're more profoundly connected to them. I've always loved being on a set and I love acting, but I feel closer to God when I sing my music. It's my path to the intuitive. And when I lose it, I feel very unsettled in life, because sometimes you write and you write and you write. This happened when I finished my album, something I had been looking forward for years, it was like I fell into an abyss, because I was done and I didn't know what else to do. I could always force the issue and write a song as a craftsman, but the inspiration wasn't there. Just recently, I started playing again. It's been powerful for me."
In the near future, we'll be able to hear Derek play his music live. "I've been working with a couple of people and we're going to start playing. I've been singing with this girl, who's done harmonies. I just met with her recently. We came out to the farm and we had a really nice blend. She is going to sing with me. And I've been working with another guitar player, who's going to play with me and there is one other guitar player, I want to get involved with me and as soon as we got that together, we're going to start playing in Toronto. I would hope that we would play in a number of clubs."

BREAKING NEWS FOR BILLY RAY CYRUS FANS!

Billy Ray has made special arrangements with Disney which will allow him to be absent from one filming of Hannah Montana so that he can be with YOU at FAN FAIR! Yes, I said FAN FAIR (CMA Music Festival): June 8-11, 2006!

Note for SPIRIT members:
As previously stated, we will not be having a SPIRIT party during Fan Fair. Even though Billy Ray is coming to Fan Fair, he will not be here long enough to accomodate a party nor is there time to plan one at this point.
We do, however, plan to have a fan club party in September in Nashville. We will also be having an event in Los Angeles in late Fall/early Winter when we will visit the set of Hannah Montana for a live taping and have breakfast with Billy Ray and Miley the next day.

Personally brought to you by the Billy Ray Cyrus Spirit Fan Club. Visit www.billyraycyrus.com often for the latest news!

New DOC/Sue Thomas FBEye Website is Open.

I've gotten a lot of request for previous newsletters and I wanted to let everyone know that they are all on line on the new DOC/Sue Thomas FBEye Newsletters' Website.

Several parts of the website are still under construction, so you want to make sure to check back often to see any updates.

Not only are the newsletters all on the site, but there is also a new Forum that was added to the site. I'm excited about this forum, because the forum will be a friendly place for fans to hang out. Jen Shashaty also has a wonderful forum specifically dealing with Sue Thomas FBEye. She also has a great section on the forum, dealing specifically with Fiction writing, which if you read the 4rth newsletter, she is quite an accomplished fiction writer herself. You can visit it here.

The DOC/Sue Thomas FBEye forum will be monitored. We want to keep the rating the same as the shows, in other words… G-Rated, maybe PG for thematic elements. Everyone is allowed to express their opinion on anything, but being rude to other members is not allowed. The rules will be posted soon.
